Very well done to the Year 10 boys and girls that braved the wet weather on Tuesday to enjoy a day’s football tournament at St Jame’s Park, home of Exeter City. Teams from around the county arrived to complete in a round robin tournament where unusually, mixed gender sides were required. The format was a huge success and friendly competition was shown by all players on the immaculate pitch.
After the first round of matches Clyst Vale had won all but one game, not conceded a goal and were looking the strongest side there. The tournament repeated it’s matches and first Teign, then Dawlish and Teignmouth all fell by the wayside as the team surged on. A penalty given away on a wet pitch led to an opposition goal to St James, but not a loss. Clyst Vale finished top of the league and had to play St Lukes in the final. Clyst Vale were on top thoughout, hitting the post and carving out chances, but then from nowhere we snapped the opposition goal post and the ball fell loose to the keeper. Clyst Vale stopped, St Lukes continued to play and nicked a goal at the death. An odd end, but a brilliant day out at a top class venue.
A real treat for the students who commented on the pace of the ball across the beautiful surface, a far cry from our sports fields! Thank you to the organisers and well done again to all that represented Clyst Vale so well.
